Escoltes Divergents

Escoltes Divergents is a collaborative research and performance project initiated by choreographer Georgia Vardarou. The work takes as its conceptual and auditory point of departure three seminal avant-garde music compositions derived from the museum exhibition Listening with your hands. Obsolete media, ephemeral messages: Alvin Lucier’s I am sitting in a room, Philip Jeck’s Vinyl Coda I, and William Basinski’s The Disintegration Loops.
Working through the distinct artistic languages of the collaborative team, the project carries out a process of "denaturation" between movement and sound. Vardarou, Rúbies Subirós, and Ruiz Carulla invite the audience into an immersive, shared performance space to witness kinetic attempts that resonate alongside the audio, slowly decaying until a raw, autonomous choreographic material emerges. The piece functions as an experimental mechanism to iron out irregularities between our varying sensory perceptions, tracking the precise moment where acoustic erosion gives way to physical dance.
