For Júlia Rúbies Subirós, language is a highly elastic material that weaves continuously through every layer of her artistic ecosystem. Rather than separating her writing into isolated categories of criticism, pedagogy, or scriptwriting, she treats text, speech, and voice as a single, shifting medium. It is an exploratory, deeply embodied practice that oscillates fluidly between the physical studio, the workshop environment, and the published page.

Text functions as a primary material for creation, a tool used to construct and dismantle performance architectures, guide workshop practices, and peel back the layers of a project to reveal its underlying psychology. At times, this material manifests as spoken word, text-scores, or vocal layers that inhabit the stage or digital screen. At other times, it pivots toward a highly reflective and critical mode, crystallizing into sharp, analytical essays and poetry for publication. Across all these states, her engagement with language serves to interrogate how live bodies navigate institutional spaces, to subvert entrenched ideologies, and to map out horizontal models of solidarity, memory, and collective affect.

An extensive critical essay evaluating Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker’s site-specific research project Dark Red. The text moves through deep choreo-spatial analysis and gender performativity, tracing a shift in masculinity away from rigid verticality toward mutual vulnerability, shared physical weight, and deep listening.
