Delirious Night is a major ensemble choreographic work for nine performers created by Mette Ingvartsen. Expanding on her previous research into historical dancing manias (The Dancing Public, 2021), the piece investigates what an uncontrollable eruption of dance might signify within contemporary society. The performance transforms the theater space into a feverish masquerade ball and a space of political non-compliance (surrendering the stage to bodies propelled by contagious, unstoppable, and rebellious states of excess).

Driven by the live, percussive score of Will Guthrie, the choreography navigates historical choreo-manias and institutionalized displays of madness, translating them into alternative architectures of affect, collective hedonism, and raw ecstasy. Oscillating between celebration and exorcism, Delirious Night examines how the temporary suspension of social rules and a state of absolute de-control can drive a crowd to act.
