Replacement Role

to come (extended) is a large-scale ensemble performance for fifteen performers created by Mette Ingvartsen. The work investigates the blurry territory between private intimacy and public space, exploring how the relentless saturation of erotic imagery across contemporary media impacts physical movement, bodily desires, and the social sphere. . Based on Ingvartsen’s original 2005 quintet to come, this extended iteration expands the cast to intentionally challenge commercial representations of sexual liberation. The choreography merges individual bodies into an indistinguishable, collective groovesscape. By directly manipulating how performers connect physically and experimenting with orgasmic, sensual, and social expressions, the piece disrupts conventional theatrical structures of climax and resolution. Instead, it introduces prolonged states of pleasure where somatic arousal is simultaneously decelerated and energetically accelerated. . The work stands as a key anchor of The Red Pieces, Ingvartsen's multi-year performance cycle interrogating sexuality, the experience economy, and corporate politics of the body. . .
